Craft Beer Made In... Abruzzo!

Abruzzo has established itself as a region of extraordinary product quality and the variety and richness of its food and wine tradition. Excellences such as wine and oil, however, are not the only peculiarities that distinguish the Abruzzi region.

An interesting statistic shows us that in Italy, Abruzzo is the region with the highest number of craft breweries in relation to the population. Numerous companies have sprung up in the area, which have contributed to creating new sources of employment and development in various parts of the region. In Abruzzo, this young and dynamic sector owes part of its success to the excellence of its raw materials.

The link with local products and the use of local resources are in fact distinctive features of the region's beers. Local spices, flowers, fruits and honey are often used in the brewing process, giving the beers a unique taste. Also not to be overlooked is what is perhaps the most important ingredient: water, which comes from the Gran Sasso and Majella springs. Finally, another interesting aspect concerns the use of cereals. In the past imported from abroad, today their cultivation is becoming more and more established within the Abruzzi territory.

The success of the region's craft beers is also confirmed by the Slow Food movement, which, in its Guida alle Birre d'Italia 2015, headed by Eugenio Signorini, awarded various prizes to some of the best breweries in Abruzzo. Almond '22, a brewery from Spoltore, won the Slow Food 'Chiocciola', the highest award envisaged, while the Opperbacco di Notaresco and Maiella di Pretoro breweries were awarded the 'Bottiglia' prize, linked to the consistent, high quality of their entire production. In the same guide we can also find a total of 16 reviews of Abruzzo breweries, further confirmation of the considerable production present.

Own style, excellent raw materials, a high variety of products and particular attention to environmental impact. These are the valuable and common characteristics of much of the craft beer production in Abruzzo. A beer that tells the story of the territory and combines harmoniously with local gastronomic specialities.
