Forty years of jazz
The longest living jazz festival in Italy, a date that has been renewed every year since 1969
Jazz festivals originally came from France, Nice to be precise where, in 1948, the first jazz festival was held where the great masters could be heard. In fact, contrary to common belief, America was not the cradle for these events but Europe, which loved this type of music from across the ocean. In 1954 the first edition of the jazz festival was organised in Newport, followed by the first one in Monterey in 1958.
During the same period, in 1956, the first San Remo jazz festival was held and then in 1969, the one in Pescara. The Pescara Jazz Festival is one of the youngest therefore, but the longest living, except from the break between 1977 and 1980, and has returned every year until now, when it celebrates its 40th birthday, the only one that still continues from among all those that started back in that period.
The Pescara Jazz Festival is not only one of the most important music events in Italy, but in Europe too and a date not to be missed for lovers of jazz and good music, where leading players can be heard. In its various editions, Pescara has hosted internationally famous jazz players who have given some truly memorable concerts.
