You’re on holiday in Roseto degli Abruzzi, at the Camping Village Eurcamping, and after a visit to a local cellar, you have bought a case of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, 14%, refined in barriques. You want to take it home to enjoy with your friends … but you can’t resist, and this evening you decide to open a bottle with your wife: an intense ruby red colour, fascinating purple hues and quite full bodied.
A pleasant bouquet that is intense and complex, with distinct fruity sensations of blueberries, morel cherries, blackcurrants and light black spices of pepper and nutmeg, which are then found on the palate where it is very smooth, livened by a clear flavour and caloric notes, slight and well-structured tannin. Excellent! What shall we serve it with?
Given the distinct flavour and bouquet of the wine, the best dish is something traditional inspired by local cuisine, where the dishes and wines are matched following the customs that have been handed down over the generations, where the bond between the local food and wine is the best way to enhance them both.
Therefore the ideal choice could be, for example, Chitarrina alla Teramana with an intense perfume, slightly spicy given by the nutmeg in the minced meat used for the meatballs, and pleasant lingering flavours and perfumes, and also succulent, delicate oiliness and moderately rich highlighted by a sprinkling of pecorino cheese. If you add oil aromatised with chilli however, be careful!
But … you haven’t sent your wife to start cooking have you? ;-)
